Finding royalty-free stock footage

Is something missing from your video?  Are you not fully satisfied with your footage?  Did you create a voiceover but are unsure where to find the images to accompany that? How about music? Even the best videographers occasionally have to turn to other sources to find appropriate footage.  I've needed to find footage of the perfect sunset from a Hawaiian beach and my client certainly was not going to fly me out there to get a 40-second clip.  Would have been nice though. Royalty-free stock footage sites are popping up like weeds.  A lot of savvy videographers and photographers have realized that...

Shooting great video with your mobile phone

If you think you don't have the tools to make a good video, think again, then check your pocket. If you own a current smartphone, then you already have a reliable video recorder built in with your phone's camera. Some amazing video is already being made using these portable, but state-of-the-art communication devices.  The ads should soon start changing from "can you hear me now?" to "can you see me now?". If you are serious about creating video for your business and are really committed to doing so yourself, then you need to invest some time and as little bit of money...

No, Virginia, this is not a movie

Watching the power of nature flood my city and favourite mountain retreat was not on my bucket list It has been a very trying 2 days.  I watched in disbelief as my beloved mountain retreat, Canmore, AB, was washed away.  I could not process the devastation and the destruction I was seeing in photos and on television. Then, High River started to feel the wrath of nature.  A 40-minute drive from my house, I was in High River recently to visit a close friend in the hospital. Then we started to feel the pinch in Calgary.  Lots of rain, storm sewers overflowing,...

The other “F” word

There is another dirty "f" word that you need to know about This week has been one of those weeks when I have been running my business from my mobile platforms. Or trying to, at least.  My email, my word press, my mobile payment service and my browser have been working flawlessly and tirelessly this week. Over at ChicFlicks clients have been sending me links to videos and websites that appeal to them and that they wish to emulate.  I am in love with videography again and I am eager to help, but in 50% of these cases, I was unable to...

You never forget your first

I had the good fortune to meet J'Val Shuster when I delivered a little presentation about video and your business at a full-day workshop.  I had heard of Devour Events & Catering and I knew a lot of people who knew J'Val, but out paths had never crossed.  When we finally got to speak, I could feel the mutual respect and admiration. When she requested a meeting shortly after, I was thrilled to be able to discuss, develop and follow through on a video agenda for this most amazing catering company.  I was hungry (pun intended) for the job.  I was...

You’ll Just Know

When you jump in with fear, you'll know if it's right.  We hear the saying all the time: when you meet the right person, you'll know. I thought I knew when I met my first husband. But now that it's all said and really done, I knew deep down we were not right for each other. When I met my second husband, I knew for sure that this was THE GUY! I know he knew it too when, on our very first date, I told him he was full of shit, and he laughed at me when he explained why there was a...
